Overtime Thoughts - 3/8

Your #7 Lady Cards were in action in the Big East Tournament quarterfinals tonight and beat Rutgers 87-82 in double OT. Angel McCoughtry led all scorers with 35 points. Louisville will play the winner of #19 Pitt/DePaul tomorrow at 8 PM on ESPNU.

#8 Michigan State defeated #20 Purdue 62-51
#10 Wake Forest beat #19 Clemson 96-88
#14 Gonzaga killed Santa Clara 94-59
#24 Florida State defeated Virginia Tech 63-53

One more team punched their NCAA Tournament ticket today. That team was Northern Iowa from the Missouri Valley Conference.

The World Baseball Classic is in full swing with 5 games today:
Cuba crushed South Africa 8-1
The Dominican Republic bounced back and beat Panama 9-0
Korea killed China 14-0 to advance to the 2nd round
Mexico vs Australia

Team USA destroyed Venezuela today 15-6. Kevin Youkilis and Adam Dunn both went deep for the 2nd straight game. They will advance to the 2nd round.

Boston pitcher Jon Lester cashed in today with a 5-year, $30 million extension after a 16-6 season last year.

Alex Rodriguez will opt for surgery on his torn labrum. He will be out 6-9 weeks and will also need another operation at the end of the season.

In golf, Y.E. Yang won the Honda Classic after shooting 9-under for the tournament.

In NASCAR, Kurt Busch won the Kobalt Tools 500.
