Overtime Thoughts - 2/22 *Gift Card Giveaway*

Your #7 Louisville Cardinals (21-5, 12-2) play @ Georgetown (14-11, 5-9) tomorrow night on ESPN's Big Monday. The game will be at 7 PM. The Hoyas are coming off a tough loss at home to #11 Marquette on Saturday. This is a must win game for the Hoyas. I have to think if they do not find a way to win this one, they will be heading to the NIT. Guess the score of the game in our comments to win a $10 gift card to the Lunch Pail!!

Around the Big East:
#14 Villanova outlasted #25 Syracuse 89-86
West Virginia won at Rutgers 74-56
St. John's defeated Seton Hall 70-65

Around the top 25:
#5 Michigan State defeated Wisconsin 61-50
#9 Duke beat #8 Wake Forest 101-91
#11 Arizona State defeated Arizona 70-68
#13 Clemson beat Georgia Tech 81-73
#16 Illinois bounced back against Ohio State 70-68
#17 Xavier crushed George Washington 71-53

#11 Florida finished their 3-game sweep over our #17 Louisville baseball team with a 3-2 win today in Gainesville. The Cards return home with a game this Wednesday against Eastern Kentucky at 2 PM.

Oklahoma's Blake Griffin's status is still uncertain for the Sooners' game against Kansas on Big Monday. Griffin suffered a concussion in the first half of last night's loss to Texas.

Phil Mickelson had a 4-shot lead going into the final round of the Northern Trust Open today. He somehow lost that lead and came from behind to defeat Steve Stricker by one shot to earn his 35th career PGA win. It was his first tournament of the year. All eyes in the golf world will be on Tiger Woods next weekend as he will play for the first time since last year's US Open, which he won on basically one leg.

*other important sporting news that was left out of today's post, not sure how you guys can overlook these stories...

How about that Classic? Two anglers, Skeet Reese and Mike Iaconelli battled up to the last minute before needing to head back to the weigh-in. Trading fish for fish, these two guys could not have drawn up a better ending to the biggest tournament on tour. Weighing in with a 20lbs. 3oz. bag on the last day brought hope to Iaconelli when all he could do was sit on the hot seat and watch the rest of the field try to overtake his total.

Going into the last day in 10th place, Iaconelli knew what he had to do in order to win, but he fell 11oz. short. Skeet Reese, needing 16lbs 2oz to win, bagged 16lbs 12 oz on the final day and was finally able to hoist the Classic trophy in the middle of the shower of fireworks and confetti since losing in similar circumstances in 2007. Reese won $500,000 for fishing three days, I can't think of any better way to earn $500k.

In other news, Trinity College of Hartford's squash team continued their excellence by winning its 202nd consecutive match and 11th consecutive national title, being the longest winning streak in college sports. And if you are considering attending the Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts in New York, don't expect much from their intramural program that was recently named the worst sports school in the nation.
