Overtime Thoughts - 2/19

Thanks to everyone for participating in discussions in last night's thoughts. You guys are great and we can not wait to share our thoughts with you all on the air Tuesday night.

I added a new feature to our site. If you look on the right hand side of the page, you can now subscribe to all of our posts on here. Whenever we post our thoughts, you will receive an email letting you know, that way you know when to join in on discussions.

Let's lead off with some news from your #7 Louisville Cardinals. One of their recruits, PG Peyton Siva from Seattle, WA was named a McDonald's All-American. Siva will enroll at the University of Louisville this fall. North Carolina led all colleges with 4 McDonald's All-Americans this year. Representing the Big East, Villanova has 2 players, Pitt has 1, and UCONN has 1.

Big East action tonight:
#9 Duke went out of conference and won at the Garden against St. John's 76-69
#14 Villanova beat Rutgers 82-72 on Nova's senior night

Around the top 25:
Charlotte upset #17 Xavier 65-60 in an Atlantic 10 battle
#20 Gonzaga killed Loyola Marymount 91-54
#15 UCLA beat #19 Washington 85-76

A bunch of people were franchised today in the NFL: Dunta Robinson (Houston), Max Starks (Pittsburgh), Leroy Hill (Seattle), Bo Scaife (Tennessee), and Julius Peppers (Carolina). The Julius Peppers situation will be a good one to look at over the next few months as he has expressed how much he wants to leave Carolina.

42 year old Tom Glavine signed a one year deal today with his original team, the Atlanta Braves. The contract could pay him as much as $4.5 million if all incentives are reached.

Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes was fined $10,000 today by the NFL for his touchdown celebration after making the game-winning catch in Pittsburgh's win over Arizona. But hey, who can blame him? He's going to Disney World. Also, he sold his gloves that he caught that ball with for $70,200, all of which was donated to charity.

The NFL Combine is officially underway in Indianapolis. It will go on until Tuesday. You can even go to their website and vote what your favorite NFL Combine drill is!!

After rejecting a contract extension earlier in the week, Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach agreed to a 5-year $12.7 million deal. He declined the previous offer due to a clause that would have triggered his firing and a $1.5 million fine if he interviewed for any other job.

  1. A couple of things you guys left out tonight too:
    1. Tiger Woods is coming back. Huge boost for the PGA because he is obviously their biggest draw and IMO without him it is just guys playing golf. I'll be interested in seeing how the knee reacts though because if I'm right, it has been less than a year since surgery.
    2. Tyson Chandler gets sent back to New Orleans after failing his physical with the Thurnder. This wasn't a fair trade in the first place and I don't understand why NO would offload him and really kill any chance they had in the playoffs. I realize he has been injured and hasn't played well when he has played but I'll take Chandler over Joe Smith any day of the week.

Keep up the good work on the Overtime Thoughts guys.

  2. I'm interested to see how Tiger does too. I think it would have been a better story if he made his return at this year's Masters in Augusta. Either way I'm pulling for the field.

You all also failed to mention ESPN's new addition to their blogging crew, Lil Wayne. And how does he celebrate his new position with ESPN? By getting their logo tattooed on the last open space left on his arm.
