Overtime thoughts - 2/18

Every night, we will post some of the top stories of the day. Our hope in doing this is to get sports information out to you all even when we aren't on the air. Also, we are doing this so we can get some interaction from you all. If you have anything to say about anything we have listed, please post your thoughts in the comments section. This way we get feedback and can understand what you all are thinking more effectively.

Your #7 Louisville Cardinals (20-5, 11-2) defeated the Providence Friars (16-10, 8-6) tonight 94-76. The Friars hung with Louisville and even led until Providence all of a sudden forgot to shoot and went about 10 minutes without making a shot. Six Cardinals scored in double figures and Earl Clark had a double-double.

Some scores from around the Big East Conference:
Georgetown (14-10, 5-8) pummeled South Florida (8-17, 3-10) 65-40
West Virginia (18-8, 7-6) beat Notre Dame (14-11, 5-8) 79-68

Ranked teams in action tonight:
#3 North Carolina defeated NC State 89-80
#6 Memphis destroyed SMU 90-47
#8 Wake Forest beat Georgia Tech 87-69
#18 Kansas defeated Iowa State 72-55
Milwaukee pulled off the upset over #22 Butler 63-60
#23 Utah State defeated Cal State Bakersfield 78-57
#24 LSU came back and beat Arkansas 72-69

Also, The Overtime Show is not a big fan of Big Ten basketball. Imagine being at this game tonight: Penn State - 38, #16 Illinois - 33. What is that? My 3rd grade basketball team played in more exciting games than that.

Ken Griffey Jr. is returning to the Seattle Mariners where he played from 1989-2000. He signed a one-year deal worth a guarenteed $2 million with another possible $2.5 million in incentives.

In the NFL, Baltimore's Terrell Suggs, Tampa Bay's Antonio Bryant, and San Diego's Darren Sproles were all franchised today.

If we missed anything let us know! Also share your opinions on today's events!

  1. I like the info. Now I know it's like a day old, but put DEUCE on here. DEUCE and the Saints. Then it would be perfect.

  3. I don't know for sure about that. However, they do have the most favorable schedule down the stretch. It's a toss up between them, Pitt, and UCONN.

  4. As an Illini fan I am VERY disappointed in their performance against Penn St. Only 33 point! The majority of teams playing tonight score at least that many in the FIRST half.

  5. the big ten is a much slower game, wisconsin started the trend and the rest of the league slowly adopted it. instead of blasting the offense lets applaud the defense, that's what wins championships

  6. maclethal, defense may win championships. But if you're giving up 38 points to Penn State and losing, you aren't winning any championships.

  7. I think when march madness roles around though that the big 10 will do well b/c of the Defense that the entire league plays. But with that said i dont think they have a elite 8 or final 4 caliber team

  9. Why are you all talking about college basketball, washed up Griffey, and franchised NFL players when one of the most famous sporting events in the world is coming up this weekend...The Bassmaster Classic.

Coming off the Toyota Tundra Angler of The Year award, will top money winner Kevin VanDam add another Classic to his resume or will one of the 12 the Classic rookies upset the field? And if that doesn't get your attention maybe the first ever female fisherwoman to compete in the Classic will be compelling enough to capture viewers this Saturday at 8am on ESPN.

This year's Classic will be an excellent display of fishery and is the only way to kick off the Bassmaster tour. Nonetheless its something to bring to the watercooler on Monday.

  10. Mr. Jmill273, we truly appreciate your input of ideas for our show. We hope that you continue to bless us with all of your great show ideas. It is our fault that we forgot how popular and intriguing fishing radio truly is. Thank you so much and we hope you tune in on the 24th!
